News reports on TV and technology magazines have reported that open source companies and communities will provide employment to a lot of software developers around the globe. This issue has been going around several times now that even this blog have been a victim to what I consider a full gossip truth. Gossip truth because there well maybe a lot of chance of good for nothing
unemployed workers to grab a job but that will happen if open source have taken its full form.
And contrary to that, Sun Microsystems, the company behind the open-sourcing Java thingy, will have a mass layoff as a part of their development plan to gain back their profits. This is extremely sad for those people who will be forced to leave the company, and if I'm not hallucinating whilst writing this entry, an approximate of four to five thousand employees will lose their source of income. With the new CEO Jonathan Schwartz in position, a complete renovation is needed to bring back the firm's financial wealth.
Sheesh, I did not realize things can go bad as this for a computer company that we've learned to love over time. I can't imagine what will happen to the hapless employees who lose their income just because the company needs to earn more money. I don't blame Sun for their move if they really need to do that, provided that they will give enough separation fees for the people who will leave them.
